Fabrizio Romano reports that Raphael Varane, the former Manchester United defender, is set to finalize his move to Serie A newcomers Como.

Having left Manchester United after his contract expired and his last match at Wembley in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, Varane is currently without a club.

Although there were rumors linking him to the Saudi Pro League and MLS, Varane’s next destination appears to be Serie A.

The 31-year-old had a three-year stint at United following his transfer from Real Madrid in 2021, during which he won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

After careful consideration, Varane has decided to join Como, where he will reunite with Cesc Fabregas. Previously rivals in La Liga, Varane will now play under Fabregas, who is Como’s manager.

Romano confirmed on X.com:

“Raphael Varane to Como, here we go! Documents are ready to be signed. The former Real Madrid and Man United center-back will play in Serie A under Cesc Fabregas as manager. Varane will sign a two-year deal until June 2026 with an option until 2027.”

Como’s acquisition of Varane is a significant boost for the club, adding experienced talent and a winning mentality. Varane joins former Premier League stars Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno, who have also signed with Como this summer.

Fabregas played a crucial role in securing this transfer, and Varane’s presence will be crucial for Como’s efforts to secure their place in Serie A next season.

Varane will compete with Jay Idzes, a center-back who has recently become an Indonesian citizen and has been a regular starter for Como. Idzes’ contract with the club runs until June 2027.

Como, with its Indonesian ownership and Fabregas’s involvement as a shareholder, aims to make a significant impact in Serie A. Despite Varane’s illustrious career, including multiple Champions League titles and a World Cup win, adding to his trophy collection in this new chapter might be challenging.
