HIDDEN POWER: Facundo Pellistri’s ‘WɑRRIOR’ Performance Shines in Urᴜgᴜay’s Victory Over Brazil, Rᴜshing Through ‘FIERCY’ Combаts

Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri had a subdued performance, but Uruguay managed to edge past South American powerhouse Brazil in a penalty shootout last night, securing a thrilli𝚗g upcoming clɑsh with Colombia for a spot in the final.

The Uruguayans, known for their storied history in the competition, added another chapter with an impressive win, despite being reduced to ten mеn from the 74th minute, carrying through to the end of extra time.

With just 40% possession, they showcased a determined and tenacious defense, holding the Brazilians at bay and ending the 120-minute match in a goalless draw.

Although they had 12 shots compared to Brazil’s 7, only one was on target. Darwin Nunez missed a prime scoring opportunity in the first half, sending a free header over the bar.

Pellistri, who has had an impressive tournament with a goal and an assist, had a quieter outing. The 22-year-old, who spent the previous season on loan at Granada, received a Sofascore rating of 6.7.

He played for 78 minutes before being substituted shortly after Nahitan Nandez’s red card forced La Celeste to reshuffle their formation.

Pellistri had limited involvement with only 30 touches and completed just four of his eight pass attempts. He made no key passes and neither of his two crosses reached their target.

He also didn’t manage any shots, on or off target, marking a personally frustrating night.

Despite this, Pellistri contributed defensively, making one clearance and five successful tackles. He won eight out of 15 ground duels and one of his two aerial battles.

Manchester United transfer target Manuel Ugarte emerged as the hero by scoring Uruguay’s decisive penalty in the shootout, after Brazil missed two of their own.

Uruguay’s advancement in the tournament likely means a delay in any transfer deal for Ugarte until after mid-July.

La Celeste will now face Colombia in the semifinals on Wednesday night (Thursday early UK time) for a chance to play either Argentina or Canada in the final. United supporters are hopeful that Uruguay can advance to meet Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho’s Argentina in the championship match, potentially bringing the Copa America trophy back with one or more of their players.
