N’Golo Kanté arriving for camp with the France national team for the first time in two years

N’Golo Kanté has made a surprising return to the France national team, joining the camp for Euro 2024. This marks the first time in two years that the tenacious midfielder has been called up by Les Bleus. Kanté, who recently concluded his club season with Al-Ittihad against Al-Nassr, is set to bolster the French squad with his vast experience and unmatched work ethic.

ImageKanté, a key player in France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup triumph, has made 53 appearances for the national team. However, his last outing for Didier Deschamps’ side was in June 2022 during a Nations League match against Denmark. He was notably absent from the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad, making his current inclusion even more noteworthy.

His inclusion in the squad for Euro 2024, despite his age and recent limited playing time, underscores the trust and belief that Deschamps has in him. Speaking about his decision to bring Kanté back, Deschamps explained:

Image“N’Golo Kanté was coming out of a 2022/2023 season where he did not play much. He had a full season, certainly not in a European championship, but he has regained all his physical abilities. From his experience, I am convinced that the French team will be better with him. He has regained his athletic abilities. We can discuss the specific intensity in Saudi Arabia, but he played more than 4,000 minutes during the season, that’s more than 40 games.”

ImageDeschamps further elaborated on Kanté’s irreplaceable qualities, both on and off the pitch:

“With N’Golo, no matter the situation, there is never a problem. He’s an angel. Everyone likes him. He has no guarantees. To be honest, the seven midfielders can be the starters that he deserves or that I give him. He has a status and that weighs, but it’s N’Golo, and N’Golo is fine, he’s fine all the time.”

ImageKanté’s return adds depth to a squad already brimming with talent. Alongside emerging stars like Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni, his presence will be invaluable as France aims for success in the grueling tournament. Kanté, who has previously competed in Euro 2016, Euro 2020, and the 2018 World Cup, is poised to make a significant impact once again.
