Conor Gallagher expressed his satisfaction in helping Chelsea secure European qualification and reflected on a grueling yet rewarding 2023/24 season.
In the Cobham graduate’s second full season with the Blues, Gallagher became the first and only Chelsea player to play 50 matches this campaign. He reached this landmark during the Premier League finale against Bournemouth, where Chelsea emerged victorious with a 2-1 win.
At just 24 years old, Gallagher has been a regular starter in midfield, contributing significantly to the team’s strong finish. The Blues suffered only one defeat in their last 15 matches in the league, securing a place in continental competition for the next season.
Gallagher emphasized the importance of placing their achievements in context, recognizing the club’s history of success.
“It was a fantastic end to the season,” he said. “I think we won the last five games, and it’s a great achievement for us. Securing European football is also a great achievement considering where we were, but the expectation at Chelsea is more than what we have achieved this season. Everyone knows that, but considering the moment, it’s a great achievement.”
The dynamic English midfielder also acknowledged the season’s impact on his development, enjoying his most prolific season in front of goal for Chelsea and registering the most minutes in the entire squad.
“Personally, I think it’s been a successful season for myself,” he continued. “I’m really thankful to the fans for believing in me and showing their support throughout the season because it has helped me grow in confidence and perform the way we have, so I’m very thankful for that.”
Reflecting on his contributions, Gallagher added, “I’ve scored a few goals which has been very nice. You can’t beat the feeling of scoring, and I’m really happy that I’ve been able to help the team out because that’s the most important thing.”
Heading into the summer months, Gallagher expressed his gratitude towards Chelsea supporters at Stamford Bridge and around the world.
“I’m so grateful for the supporters,” he added. “It means so much to me personally after such a difficult season last year. To show the love to me personally this season is such a nice feeling.”
Overall, Gallagher’s reflections underscore a season of personal and team growth, setting a positive tone as Chelsea looks forward to their European campaign next season.
