Kylian Mbappe said his goodbyes to Paris Saint-Germain with an extravagant celebration for 250 guests at an elegant Italian restaurant on Monday night.
The French star gathered his PSG teammates, club staff, and friends at Gigi, a venue inspired by Venetian palaces, conveniently located near the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.
The restaurant’s menu boasts a €160 (£137) Cote de Boeuf for two, a €78 (£67) roasted Norway lobster, and a €68 (£58) Dover sole dish.
Despite being on the guest list, French President Emmanuel Macron, who has a close relationship with Mbappe, did not attend the party, according to reports.
In his speech, Mbappe referred to the guests as “family who have influenced my life.” The 25-year-old forward, who scored 256 goals in 307 matches over seven seasons at the Parc des Princes, confirmed his departure, likely to Real Madrid, on May 10.
His mother and agent, Fayza Lamari, hinted at his next destination when questioned by journalists outside the venue, saying, “you already know, right?”
Le Parisien reported that most of the PSG squad attended, with Danilo Pereira and Nuno Mendes arriving first. Mbappe arrived around 7:30 pm with his brother Ethan, followed by teammates Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembele, Goncalo Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, and Milan Skriniar.
Lucas Hernandez, who is missing Euro 2024 due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament, arrived on crutches.
The arrival of 18-year-old French star Warren Zaire-Emery around 10 pm caused the most excitement, according to reports.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was notably absent, reportedly due to a fallout with Mbappe after his departure announcement.
Lamari briefly spoke to journalists outside at 11:30 pm, implying Mbappe’s move to Madrid without explicitly confirming it.
Marca reported that Mbappe took the microphone during the evening to deliver his farewell speech.
