ESPN Argentina reported on Thursday that the Benfica winger, whose contract is set to expire in June, is being pursued by the South Beach MLS team.

The 36-year-old would add strength to their attacking lineup, while also providing seasoned leadership alongside Messi and Suarez. Notably, Di Maria and Messi have been long-time comrades on the Argentina national team, and they have also shared the pitch at club level with Paris Saint Germain.

With 138 appearances for La Albiceleste since 2007, Di Maria’s international experience matches Messi’s 171 caps since 2004.

It’s anticipated that Di Maria won’t join Inter Miami until after the culmination of this summer’s Copa America.

If the deal goes through, Di Maria would become the fourth former teammate of Messi’s to join him at Inter Miami, alongside Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.

Inter Miami faces the New York Red Bulls this weekend in MLS action. As for Di Maria, negotiations are reportedly underway to secure his transfer to the MLS side post-Copa America 2024.
