The Story Behind the Newest Coffee-Themed Jordan Sneaker of Boston Celtics’ Player Jayson Tatum

Donning his special edition Jordans, Jayson Tatum unveiled his Tatum 2 sneakers during a game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Consistently ranked among the NBA’s top 10 players by various sources, Jayson Tatum epitomizes star quality in all facets. His prominence secured him a lucrative, multi-year partnership with Air Jordan in the summer of 2019. After some anticipation, JT finally introduced his inaugural signature sneaker to the market, with the Tatum 1 hitting shelves in 2023.

The Tatum 2, Jayson Tatum’s second signature Jordan sneaker, is drawing significant interest, particularly the “Momma’s Boy” edition launched in February 2024. Being a superstar, Tatum frequently receives unique versions of sneakers, known as Player-Exclusive (PE) editions. It was Tatum’s recent PE pair, worn during the April 9 game against the Milwaukee Bucks, that captured everyone’s attention.

The coffee-inspired Tatum 2s were crafted by Ian Williams, the founder of Deadstock Coffee, a sneaker-themed coffee shop located in Portland, Oregon.

Tatum’s coffee-themed Player-Exclusive (PE) Tatum 2 sneakers sparked excitement across social media. These shoes sport a relaxed aesthetic for basketball sneakers, drawing inspiration from the Jordan 3 “Mocha” model. The collaboration between Deadstock Coffee and Air Jordan features JT’s signature logo on one tongue and the coffee brand’s logo on the other. A distinctive touch is an embroidered seal on the inner tab bearing the inscription “4th and Couch,” marking the intersection where Deadstock Coffee is situated in Portland.

Ian Williams, formerly involved in shoe development at Nike, is well-versed in the sneaker industry. Before launching Deadstock Coffee, he contributed to the creation of the Nike Dunk High SB “Wet Floor” colorway back in 2009. Combining his passion for sneakers with a love for coffee, the Tatum 2 “Mocha” PE seamlessly integrates these elements.
