Chelsea is poised to open its doors to welcome Raphael Varane, who is likely to depart from Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window as a free agent.

While Varane’s contract includes an option for a one-year extension, he has no intention of activating it and is seeking a new environment.

Sources from England suggest that Chelsea is interested in acquiring Varane on a free transfer.

Chelsea will bid farewell to veteran defender Thiago Silva after June 30. The 39-year-old player intends to return to his native Brazil to play before retiring.

Varane’s experience is deemed crucial as Chelsea’s squad features many young players.

Despite Varane facing several fitness issues since joining Manchester United, Chelsea believes they can manage this issue effectively.

In 21 Premier League appearances this season, Varane has stood out with 15 interceptions, 86 clearances (42 with his head), winning 42 duels and losing only 20, winning 21 aerial duels while losing 5.

In the event of securing Varane’s signature, the French center-back playing 50% of the matches would be considered a success for Chelsea.

Glen Johnson, a Premier League champion with Chelsea in 2004-05, advises his former club not to overlook the opportunity to sign Varane in the upcoming summer transfer window.

“Indeed, Varane is not the same as he was 3 or 4 years ago, but he is still a very talented player,” Johnson remarked.

“Yes, he has injury issues. But if he signs a free contract and Varane only plays 50% of the matches, in my opinion, that’s a good deal.”

Varane has yet to make a decision regarding his next destination. Al-Nassr also wants to bring him to Saudi Arabia to reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo.
