Toni Kroos and Luka Modric have been in focus in recent months, with uncertainty looming over their futures.

 

While Kroos may soon be handed a contract extension, the German has indicated in the past that he would like to retire early. Modric, meanwhile, is unlikely to continue at Real Madrid, although a renewal has not entirely been ruled out.

Nevertheless, Real Madrid, despite recognising the quality and experience of Kroos and Modric, have already started the search for their ideal replacement.

Juni Calafat provides two names

To that end, Defensa Central reports that the Real Madrid hierarchy has already been informed of two potential players who could replace Kroos and Modric in the years to come.

These two players in question are Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen and Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich.

These two are handpicked by none other than Real Madrid’s star scout Juni Calafat, who was crucial in unearthing talents such as Federico Valverde, Rodrygo and more recently, Arda Guler.

The Real Madrid board, therefore, has complete faith in Calafat, who wants the club to bring in either Musiala and Wirtz in the near future.

Realistic options for Real Madrid?

Under the current circumstances, however, it is unlikely Real Madrid would be able to afford either of these stars, knowing their valuations could erupt in the coming summer.

Not to mention, Real Madrid are already involved in the pursuit of players such as Kylian Mbappe, Alphonso Davies and Leny Yoro, which is set to take a tоll on the club’s balance sheets.

Keeping that in mind, it is perhaps wiser for Real Madrid to only start considering making moves for Wirtz and Musiala in the summer of 2025.

Wirtz, in particular, is working under the leadership of Xabi Alonso, who is keen on the Real Madrid job and could bring the German with him.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, are unlikely to even consider offers for star man Musiala, especially after a poor season in the Bundesliga.

Hence, patience could be the nаme of the game as Real Madrid look to find a player who can fill in the shoes of Kroos and Modric in the years to come.
