Soccernet.ng has reported that Lesley Chimuanya Ugochukwu, the talented defensive midfielder currently plying his trade for Chelsea and the French National Team, recently embarked on a trip to Nigeria to reconnect with his family. The 19-year-old, who made the move to Chelsea from Stade Rennais in the French Ligue 1 last summer, took to social media to share snapshots of his visit.

 

Lesley’s stint at Stade Rennais was unfortunately marred by a hamstring injury, sidelining him for six weeks. Despite this setback, the budding midfielder has exhibited promise, featuring in 10 league matches for Chelsea under the tutelage of coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Stade Rennais has garnered acclaim for its prowess in nurturing and fostering black talents in French football, with notable players such as Ousmane Dembele and Eduardo Camavinga emerging from their esteemed academy.

 Lesley, hailing from Nigerian heritage and being the nephew of former Super Eagles and Seattle Sounders defender Onyekachi Apam, holds the option to represent Nigeria on the international stage. However, he has previously donned the jersey of France at the U-19 and U-21 levels.

 During his hiatus from football, Lesley has relished cherished moments with his family in Nigeria.
