Chelsea player ratings vs Burnley: Cole Palmer must be fed up of this garbage

In a captivating display of football, Chelsea found themselves held to a 2-2 draw against a resilient 10-man Burnley side, despite the standout performance of former Manchester City forward Cole Palmer.

Chelsea celebrating Axel Disasi disallowed goal against Burnley 2023-24Palmer, once again proving his prowess on the pitch, showcased his attacking prowess by contributing both goals for Chelsea. His efforts saw him increase his league goal tally to an impressive 13, as he first converted a penalty before sealing a late goal. However, Palmer’s individual brilliance was not enough to secure a victory for Chelsea, as Burnley fought valiantly to earn a crucial point.

The match began with Chelsea asserting their dominance, and they appeared to have taken the lead after 20 minutes when Axel Disasi headed in from a Mykhailo Mudryk cross. However, VAR intervened, ruling out the goal due to a handball. Undeterred, Chelsea continued to press forward, but Burnley’s goalkeeper Arijanet Muric thwarted their attempts with a string of impressive saves.

The breakthrough finally came for Chelsea just before halftime when Mudryk was brought down in the box, resulting in a red card for Burnley’s Lorenz Assignon. Palmer stepped up to convert the penalty, giving Chelsea the lead going into halftime.

However, Burnley emerged from the break with renewed determination and quickly found an equalizer through a spectacular strike from Josh Cullen. Despite dominating possession, Chelsea struggled to break down Burnley’s resilient defense, with Muric producing several crucial saves to deny them.

Chelsea thought they had secured the victory when Palmer once again found the back of the net after a flick from Raheem Sterling. But Burnley refused to be beaten and leveled the score once more, with Dara O’Shea heading home an equalizer that slipped through the hands of Chelsea’s goalkeeper Petrovic.

In a thrilling climax to the match, Burnley came close to securing an unlikely victory, hitting the crossbar before sending the follow-up wide. The draw leaves Chelsea disappointed, as they missed an opportunity to secure all three points against a 10-man Burnley side.

Despite the result, Palmer’s standout performance will be a positive for Chelsea, showcasing his ability to make an impact on the field. As Chelsea reflect on the match, they will be left ruing missed opportunities but will take solace in Palmer’s continued excellence.

Moises Caicedo & Zeki Amdouni battle for possession during Chelsea vs Burnley 2023-24Goalkeeper & Defence

Djordje Petrovic (5/10):

Pulled off some good saves to deny Burnley and could do nothing about the first equaliser. The second goal, though, was a real howler and he should’ve comfortably dealt with it. Nightmare.

Malo Gusto (7/10):

Had some weak defensive moments early on but grew into the game with strong tackling and good movement up the right-hand side.

Axel Disasi (6/10):

Was sound in the air and on the ball. Saw his celebrations for a goal cut short by VAR.

Benoit Badiashile (5/10):

Let Foster slip away from him for a great chance to put Burnley ahead, it summed up a pretty disappointing afternoon for the Frenchman.

Marc Cucurella (5/10):

Did not look good on the left as he failed to connect with Mudryk and offered nothing.

Moises Caicedo (6/10):

Sound on the ball but didn’t offer enough protection to the back line.

Enzo Fernandez (7/10):

Excellent passes to bring Chelsea’s attacks forward. Another solid display from the Argentine.

Conor Gallagher (6/10):

His passes were good and he created a big chance for Mudryk in the second half.

Cole Palmer (9/10):

Chelsea’s most threatening player from the beginning and showed how confident he is with a cheeky Panenka penalty. Restored their lead and almost set up the winner with a beautiful ball to Sterling.

Nicolas Jackson (6/10):

Made some good runs to help open up the Burnley defence but missed a few chances.

Mykhailo Mudryk (8/10):

Some dangerous moments with good crosses, shots and linked up well with others. Earned the penalty, albeit a little fortuitously, and put one on a plate for Jackson in the second half, only for the forward to squander the chance.
