Chelsea are reportedly exploring alternatives to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen for their striker position, with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres emerging as a viable option. Osimhen, while a top target for Mauricio Pochettino, faces competition from Paris Saint-Germain and has a significant release clause in his Napoli contract.

In response, Chelsea has widened their search, with Gyokeres garnering significant attention. The Swedish international has been impressive, netting an impressive 36 goals in 39 appearances for Sporting since his move from Coventry City for £21m last summer.

However, like Osimhen, Gyokeres commands a substantial fee, with an £86m release clause attached to his contract. Despite Sporting’s desire to retain him, they would be unable to prevent his departure if a suitor matches the release clause.

Chelsea scouts were reportedly in attendance during Sweden’s recent match against Portugal, where Gyokeres managed to score despite Sweden’s loss. This performance further solidified his appeal to top European clubs.

With Gyokeres high on Chelsea’s transfer shortlist, there’s anticipation that his addition could bolster their attacking prowess. The London club currently faces challenges in the Premier League, sitting in 11th place, prompting a need for reinforcements to compete at the top level.

While Osimhen remains a prime target, Chelsea’s interest in Gyokeres suggests a strategic approach to securing a prolific goalscorer to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
