Lionel Scaloni, the coach of the Argentina national team, included the 26-year-old in his roster for the upcoming friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica this month. Nevertheless, Martinez has been sidelined with an injury since early February and is currently unfit to participate with the Albiceleste.

According to ESPN, Scaloni chose to include the center-back in the group of players heading to the United States for the upcoming matches. Even though he may not be able to play, Scaloni wants Martinez to be close to the team. The World Cup-winning manager is already looking ahead to the Copa America and anticipates having Martinez back in action for the summer competition. He believes that having Martinez spend more time with Lionel Messi and the other teammates in the host country will be beneficial for both the player and the team.

Martinez has participated in only 10 games for United this season. He experienced a foot injury in mid-September, causing him to be inactive until January. Following just four appearances, he encountered another problem, which has kept him out of action since early February.
