Erik ten Hag Pinpoints Costly Positioning Error Leading to Late Goal for Manchester United Against Fulham

Erik ten Hag and Manchester United are regretting a poor performance over the weekend that halted the team’s undefeated streak in 2024.

This season, it has become evident that Old Trafford is not a stronghold for Manchester United.

United suffered a 2-1 home setback against Fulham, marking their most recent loss at home.

United scored a tying goal with Harry Maguire in the 89th minute. They then pushed forward to score a winning goal but were countered by Alex Iwobi, who scored the clinching goal for Fulham in stoppage time.

Erik ten Hag attributes the error to an individual mistake.

It is common in late-game situations to push players forward in an attempt to score a decisive goal, but this might leave your team vulnerable defensively as players may be pulled out of their positions.

Erik ten Hag remarked after the game that he believed one Manchester United player was playing in the wrong position, resulting in Fulham’s goal.

Ten Hag was angered by United’s missed opportunity to trap Fulham and prevent them from launching an offensive.

He refrained from disclosing names, since it would be unfair to do so, and hence we will not engage in speculation about their identities.

Ten Hag stated on MUTV that the goal resulted from a throw-in near the corner, which he believes should not have occurred.

“We have them in a vulnerable position, but one player is out of position.” As a team, we need to ensure that everyone is in the correct position.

“We are experienced in playing on the pitch.” We allowed their escape, which could have been prevented. It is impossible for this to occur while the opponent has a throw-in.

Manchester United requires leaders.

Ten Hag emphasised that although one player was playing in the wrong position, that individual should not be solely blamed.

He emphasised that the team was responsible for handling the issue and ensuring everyone was in the correct position.

At this point, it is essential for not only the captain but also all the team’s leaders to take action. Without Casemiro, Luke Shaw, and Lisandro Martinez due to injury, there is concern over whether Manchester United had sufficient strong personalities in the team.

United fans were dissatisfied with the performance, and even a late victory for the Red Devils would have concealed a dreadful display.
