Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, hopes to lead his country’s squad in events like the Copa America, European Championship, and FIFA World Cup.

The Spaniard, who has only played club football thus far, is thought to be among the best tacticians in the game. Guardiola has led elite teams like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and City during his illustrious managerial career, winning numerous championships at each of them.

During an exciting tenure from 2008 to 2012, he won two UEFA Champions League titles and three consecutive La Liga crowns at Camp Nou, where he originally gained notoriety. After taking a year off, Guardiola joined Bayern, where they maintained their dominance in the Bundesliga but were unable to win the Champions League.

The Spaniard joined City in 2016 and has since guided them to both national and international success, winning the treble in the previous campaign. With five Premier League championships in the last six years, Pep Guardiola is aiming for an unprecedented four-peat.

But the Spaniard also expressed his desire to lead his country’s squad in a major competition, telling GOAL:

“I would like to coach a national team competing in the European Championship or the World Cup. That’s what I would like to have. I have no idea who might desire me! Like a club, a national team must want you to work for them. I had never considered it in that way (winning a World Cup).

He continued, saying:

“I want to experience what it’s like to be in a World Cup, a Euro, a Copa America, or anything similar. That’s what I would like to have. I would like to have managed in a World Cup, but I’m not sure when that would be—five, ten, or fifteen years from now.”Despite winning an incredible 37 club football titles, Pep Guardiola’s current City contract expires in2025, thus any venture into international management will probably have to wait until then.
