Manchester United said that Luke Shaw would miss “a few months” of the season, meaning the team will be without a recognised senior left-back. In addition, the England international will miss the Three Lions’ friendlies against Brazil and Belgium the following month. Gareth Southgate is worried about the full-back’s fitness in front of England’s June 16 Euro 2024 opener against Serbia.
Luke Shaw’s injury will keep him out for “a few months,” according to Manchester United, which means Erik ten Hag will be without a reliable left-back.Ten Hag claimed that his decisions to substitute Shaw were preventative in both of United’s previous games—at halftime against Aston Villa and in the opening half of the team’s 2-1 triumph over Luton.
On their official website, United confirmed the news, stating that “we expect him to be absent for a few months, but further assessment is still needed to determine the severity.”
Shaw, who has played in 12 games for the Red Devils this season, has been in and out of the lineup due to persistent niggles. Additionally, the left-back was sidelined for the first three months of the campaign due to an additional injury.
Due to a knee injury, Lisandro Martinez has also been out for eight weeks.
Their backup left back, Tyrell Malacia, is also out due to a long-term injury. Since June of last year, the Dutchman has not participated in any club games.
Shaw’s replacement has been natural center-back Victor Lindelof. Prior to Sergio Reguilon’s loan agreement expiring in January, Sergio Reguilon was on loan at United from Tottenham. Currently, Brentford is borrowing Reguilon.
Although Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s stint on the treatment table has left United without a right-sided full-back, right-back Diogo Dalot has also played on the left of the Old Trafford team’s back four.Alvaro Fernandez, United’s second left-back option, who made an impression while on loan at Preston in the Championship last season, is no longer with the team. He was sent to Benfica in January after being called up from a brief stint at Granada.Shaw is expected to miss the Three Lions’ upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium next month, so England manager Gareth Southgate will be concerned about the left-back’s availability and match fitness ahead of Euro 2024.
