When Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne find themselves unable to meet the challenge, Manchester City can always turn to Rodri to bail them out. In the match against Chelsea on Saturday, it was Rodri, the former Atletico Madrid player, who once again stepped up to secure a point for the Premier League champions.
Facing a determined Chelsea side, Pep Guardiola’s team was unsettled, surviving some vulnerable defending before conceding a goal at the end of the first half. The combination of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson led to Raheem Sterling beating Ederson, his former teammate, to give Chelsea the lead.
Despite Ederson making crucial saves to keep Chelsea in the game, particularly thwагting Sterling twice, City controlled the latter part of the match. Erling Haaland had numerous attempts but couldn’t find the target. However, in the 83rd minute, Rodri, acting as the pinball wizard, hамmered in the equalizer.
