Mason Mount had a terrible season marred by injuries, but Erik ten Hag says he is certain the midfielder will go on to be a “very good player” for Manchester United and that he feels bad for the guy.
The 25-year-old, who joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in a deal costing up to £60 million, was a major summer acquisition; however, so far, his time at Old Trafford has been virtually indiscernible.
After suffering hamstring and calf ailments, the England international has only made four Premier League starts and four further substitute appearances.
Although Mount has resumed training on grass, he is still sidelined and might make a comeback soon.
Ten Hag feels bad for the former Blues player, but he wants to give him time to heal and hopes he can return to his peak performance level while still having a significant influence on the team.
Ten Hag claimed that “he was struggling from the second game of the season.” “He had a brief return to action before suffering another ιnjury, which is obviously not good.”
He had such high expectations, just as I had, and I truly feel bad for him because of how irritating that is for him. I genuinely want to be there for him.
He [will] undoubtedly be a fantastic player for us. But getting him fit comes first, and we have to do it very securely.
“Secure in the process—step by step, don’t force it—and maybe, by season’s end, he can maintain his fitness and find a place in the team, or at the very least, he contributes to this team.”
Ten Hag stated that Lisandro Martinez is available for the Red Devils’ Premier League matchup against West Ham on Sunday. Tyrell Malacia is doubtful, and Victor Lindelof is sidelined.
Mason Mount and Ty “I believe Victor Lindelof is almost back, but I don’t expect them back,” he remarked.
“We need to see how far he is; he trained with the team yesterday.”
