Joselu’s double secured a comfortable 2-0 victory for Real Madrid against Getafe, propelling them back to the top of La Liga. Despite a night of challenges for Jude Bellingham, the veteran striker, handed a rare start, proved clinical with a tidy brace. His goals came in the 15th minute, nodding in a cross from Lucas Vazquez, and shortly after the break, firing an angled strike for a 2-0 lead. The game had few clear chances, and Joselu could have added a third but opted to find Vinicius Jr, who missed from close range.
Carlo Ancelotti’s only genuine complaint was the departure of Antonio Rudiger, who suffered a severe knock to the thigh and had to be replaced at halftime. Madrid will need him for Sunday’s Madrid derby, in which Los Blancos will attempt to maintain their title lead.
Andriy Lunin (8/10):
Made one crucial save at 2-0 to keep his team in control. He is currently clearly ahead of Kepa.
Lucas Vazquez (7/10):
Madrid’s first goal came from a fantastic cross. Scampered diligently up and down the right side. Excellent performance.
Antonio Rudiger(7/10):
Dominant in the back until getting substituted at halftime. He appeared to have taken a severe knock to the leg, which Ancelotti hopes is not serious.
Nacho (6/10):
Mixed throughout. Put in a few key tackles, but wasn’t particularly convincing in possession.
Ferland Mendy (6/10):
Solid in the first half; had a little more difficulty with the feisty Greenwood after the interval.
Aurelien Tchouameni (6.0/10):
Solid in midfield, winning duels and keeping the ball moving. He wasn’t as comfortable as centre-back after replacing Rudiger, but his team survived.
Federico Valverde (8/10):
Another outstanding performance in his new, deeper-lying character. Covered ground and made a few dangerous runs. Understated, but great.
Jude Bellingham (7/10):
He made his usual mazy runs and caused havoc with his clever passes, but he never had a clear opportunity on goal. Disappointed by his standards.
Luka Modric(7/10):
Magnificent in the first half as the most advanced midfielder. Made an important pass in the buildup to Madrid’s opening goal. She appeared exhausted after the break.
Josélu (9/10):
He handled his first goal admirably. Made his second look even better. Vinicius was squared when he should have scored three goals. Say what you will about his gangly build, but the striker is extremely effective.
Vinicius Junior (7/10):
Dangerous on the left, as always. Created opportunities for himself and others. However, they should have scored in the second half.
