Real Madrid continues to be associated with a potential move for Kylian Mbappe, the star player from Paris Saint-Germain. However, Mbappe has not decided on his future, leaving the situation uncertain. Reports suggest that Real Madrid might pursue Erling Haaland if they fail to secure Mbappe’s signature, and it is rumored that Haaland’s former Dortmund teammate, Jude Bellingham, has been in contact with him. Fabio Capello acknowledges that Mbappe is the more skilled player overall but explains why Haaland is considered a more pressing need for Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Capello expressed in an interview with Marca, “Mbappe is not a traditional center forward; he prefers to play on the wing. Real Madrid already has Vinicius, but Mbappe is Mbappe! If Real Madrid is looking to make a signing, they need to ask themselves if they have a center forward at the moment, and the answer is no. That’s what they need more. But when it comes to technical quality and determining who the better footballer is, Mbappe surpasses Haaland.”
Real Madrid has been without a star striker this season after Karim Benzema’s departure. Although former striker Joselu has returned to the club on a season-long loan, his goal-scoring record in La Liga has been limited to five goals so far. While Real Madrid has the option to make the deal permanent, they would surely prefer to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window by acquiring a top talent like Mbappe or Haaland. The decision on Mbappe’s future is expected to be made next month, leaving Real Madrid in anticipation. Having previously attempted to secure Haaland’s services in 2022 without success, the Spanish giants may make another move, especially after witnessing his impressive performances for City last season. Haaland is under contract with Cityzens until 2027, and there are reports of a release clause that teams outside the Premier League can trigger during the summer.
