Laporte was questioned about his departure from Manchester City after his final, treble-winning season in the Premier League. Guardiola coached the defender for five seasons, during which time he was regarded as one of the best defenders in the world. However, following many ιnjᴜry issues, the defender was permitted to leave in the summer and join Al-Nassr. Speaking with AS, Laporte refused to comment on his relationship with Pep following his departure.
Laporte said: “For me, Guardiola is the best tactical coach in the world, without a doubt. Now I see it even more from the outside, you realize. Tactically he is the best.”
And when asked how Guardiola was as a coach on a personal level, Laporte said: “I am not going to comment.”
Laporte made only 12 Premier League appearances in his final season at Manchester City. The defender, who was already dealing with a variety of ιnjᴜries, saw his minutes cut even more by Nathan Ake’s form and the signing of Manuel Akanji. Guardiola replaced the Spaniard with another new signing, Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig, and his exit from Manchester became necessary for all parties.
