At least one month will pass before one player returns.
Throughout the Kawhi Leonard and Paul George era, Ivica Zubac has proven to be the most resilient player for the Clippers. The big man has participated in 372 of the team’s previous 372 regular season games, but it appears that this will soon change.
Ivica Zubac’s ιnjury from a right calf strain will keep him out of action for at least a month, the Clippers announced. Zubac will be reevaluated in a month. The timing of the ιnjury could not have been worse for the Clippers, as Zubac was playing some of his best basketball of his career and was finding success in his new role alongside James Harden.
The head coach of the Clippers, Ty Lue, announced that backup center Mason Plumlee will start in place of Zubac due to his ιnjury. There were some concerns about Plumlee’s own level of conditioning because he had already been dealing with a major ιnjury of his own that had kept him out of action for more than a month. Plumlee needs to go into the fire now.
In any case, Mason Plumlee and Daniel Theis were both acquired by the Clippers for center depth, and these opportunities will demonstrate their value. This will be an interesting test because Ivica Zubac’s prolonged absence has never been dealt with by the team. Given the current schedule, it is reasonable to anticipate that the big man will miss at least the All-Star break.
