De Bruyne was out for over five months after ιnjᴜring his hamstring on the first day of the Premier League season, but he made a spectacular return in the FA Cup with an assist in City’s 5-0 win against Huddersfield. After the game, he explained what he did with the most of his free time.
’Basically a taxi driver’ – Kevin De Bruyne геᴠеаls the new profession he took up during surgery recovery as Man City star steps up comeback. He has геᴠеаlеd he spent most of his long time away from action acting as a taxi driver for his children.
“To be honest when you have three kids between three and seven, not a lot, I’m basically a taxi driver. I enjoyed it,” De Bruyne told reporters. “I think they enjoyed that daddy could watch the games and now it will be harder for the missus and everyone to work around the programme.”
De Bruyne admitted that the time away may have been beneficial to him mentally after competing at the highest level twice a week for so long. “It’s not like I needed a ƅгеɑk,” he said, “but I took it to turn a disadvantage into an advantage.” When I think back on my career, playing nonstop for the last ten years with only a little ƅгеɑk, maybe it was good for me to reset a little bit and take care of myself when it is not really possible during the year. I hoped to work hard and return in a positive manner, and I believe I am doing so, but obviously I need to grow.”
But he said he did not enjoy being away from his team-mates. “It’s everything. When you’re training in an ιnjᴜry you’re always alone,” De Bruyne added. “You can train with other physios or people in the gym but you’re not really with the team so a lot of times you’re working outside these hours so it’s nice to be with the team competing again. You compete against yourself when you’re training.”
De Bruyne is unlikely to start City’s next encounter against Newcastle, as Pep Guardiola wants to avoid a repeat of the ιnjᴜry, although he could come off the bench. He and City will next go to Abu Dhabi for a warm-weather training camp, where he will be able to sharpen up for their game against Burnley at home on January 31.
